what is the significance of Vaasya and Varna in the Kundali matching
As we are aware, in India, it is a tradition to do kundali matching before fixing up a marriage between couples. Today, with the advance of technology, there are many apps or websites which help us in horoscope matching by using online kundali matching which does away with the need of an astrologer.
But, in this we have to remember that the system
used in these apps is the Ashtakoota
Guna Milan System which is only one of the checks done for astrology
compatibility of the couple. So, it is always better to consult
an expert astrologer for Kundali Milan of the horoscope as the astrologer will take into
aspect all the checks before giving his opinion of the Kundli matching or not.
The Ashtakoota
Guna Milan System is based on the Guna Milan of 8 aspects or Kootas
from both the horoscopes. Each Koota is given Gunas in ascending order and a
total of 36 Gunas are matched. The horoscope matching is said to be
viable if 18 out of 36 Gunas are matched.
The various Kootas are:
Ø
Varna - 1 Guna
Ø
Vashya - 2 Gunas
Ø
Tara - 3 Gunas
Ø
Yoni– 4 Gunas
Ø
GrahaMaitri– 5 Gunas
Ø
Gana– 6 Gunas
Ø
Bhakoot – 7 Gunas
Ø
Nadi – 8 Gunas
Varna
Koota
The Varna Kootais the calculation of the native’s
Varna- meaning type, order or caste - to analyse the astrology compatibility of the couple.
Varnas can be calculated using different methods:
Ø
Calculation
of the Rashi of the Moon of the individual
Ø
Calculation
of the Navamsha of the Moon
Ø
Calculation
of the ascendant (Lagna) or Sun of the individual
Ø
Calculation
of the Nakshatra of the Moon
The Varnas are divided into 4 classes:
Ø
Brahmins
or the literate class
Ø
Kshatriyas
or the warrior class
Ø
Vaishyas
or the trader class
Ø
Shudras
or the unskilled class
As per Vedic astrology, Rashisared divided into
various Varnas:
Ø
Brahmins :Cancer, Scorpio,
Pisces
Ø
Kshatriyas: Aries, Leo,
Sagittarius
Ø
Vaishyas: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Ø
Shudras: Gemini, Aquarius,
Libra
Vedic astrology classifies the Brahmins as the
most superior of all the classes and the Shudras the most inferior. This caste
system is also based on spirituality. Brahmins show their spirituality by their
worship of God, Kshatriyas make use of action, Vaishyas do their trade dealings
and Shudras do work handed to them by tradition.
Mostly Varna Koota is analysed by the moon sign
of the individuals. As per the Varna
Koota, the Varna of the male should be equal to or higher than the
female. Suppose the female’s Varna is higher than that of the male, the couple
would have lots of difficulties in their marriage. Usually Varnas of
individuals having the same Varna would be considered to match each other in Kundali matching andthey would scoremaximum of 1 Guna
in the Ashtakoota Guna Milan system.
VashyaKoota
This Koota tells us about the love
compatibility and dedicationof the couple in the marriage. It
basically tells us about the dominant partner in the marriage.
People are dividedinto 5 different animals in the
VasyaKoota. These divisions are-
Ø
Chatushpada or Quadrupeds (four-legged animals):The signs included
are Aries, Taurus, the 1st half of Capricorn and the 2nd half of Sagittarius.
Ø
Nara or the Humans (two – legged animals): The signs included
are Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Aquarius and the 1st half of Sagittarius.
Ø
Jalchar or water-dwellers:The signs included
are Cancer, Pisces and the 2nd half of Capricorn.
Ø
Vanacara or wild beast: The signs included
are Leo.
Ø
Keeta or Insects:The signs included
are Scorpio.
VasyaKoota only matches the
Moon signs and does not consider the planets. The moon signs of both the individuals
must fall in the same group to achieve maximum astrological
compatibility. A
maximum of 2 Gunas would be scoredin the Ashtakoota Guna Milan system.
There are 4 rules to test the VashyaKoota:
• Chatushpada, Manava, and Jalacharagroups are
said to beVasya to the Vanachara group.
• Chatushpada, Jalachara, and Keeta groups are
said to beVasya to the Manava group.
• Jalachara signs are said to be the food of the
Manava signs.
• Chatushpada signs are said to be the food of
the Vanachara sign.
If both the male and female have the same group,
for example, both are Chatushpada, then Vasya is considered good and 2 points
are given.
If one person is Vasya to the other, for example,
if the female's group is Chatushpada and the male's group is Manava then 1
point is given.
If one person is food to the other, for example,
the female is Jalachara and the male is Manava then 1/2 a point is given.
If the female or male is not Vasya to the other,
no points are given. The Vashya Koota actually analyses the power
equations of the couple.
