Compatibility based on the Rising Sign or the ascendant : This is the zodiac sign which was ascending or rising in the eastern horizon at the time of your birth. In the natal chart, the rising sign is also opposite the marriage house, or partnership house.

Compatibility based on Lunar Nodes :Lunar nodes are not classified as “signs,” rather, the mathematical, astronomical “points” at which the orbit of the moon crosses the ecliptic (the sun’s path on the “celestial sphere”). Determined by the exact position of the sun and moon when you were born, the nodes function on an axis. The nodes should be “conjunct” for relationship compatibility.  In other words it means that if your nodes overlap, you have a good chance of your paths crossing.
The north represents what you are trying to fulfill in this life whereas the south node is representative of past-life connections. The nodal points dictate “there is something karmic to work out within this lifetime with that person”.

Also, the Ashtakoota Guna Milan system can help tell about the relationship compatibility between the between the partners depending on 8 factors namely Varna (1 Guna), Vasya (2 Gunas), Tara (3 Gunas), Yoni (4 Gunas), Graha Maitri (5 Gunas), Gana (6 Gunas), Bhakoot(7 Gunas) and Nadi (8 Gunas).
